Catbird Seat Blog Project Contest/Giveaway Mei Tais Pikkolo

Watch our new video!

September 25, 2014
by Beth Leistensnider, founder/president of Catbird Baby

So back in February Karyn Thurston of the blog Girl of Cardigan wrote this awesome post that knocked our socks off. With poetic grace, Karyn brought “the catbird seat” (the phrase our company is named after) to life. And this project was born.

Karyn smiles for the camera, while Liz, our director, makes sure that Clark doesn’t fall down while perched on the stair railing.

Since Karyn is based in Portland, OR, we decided to shoot there. Karyn hooked us up with her friend, filmmaker Liz Vice (who sings beautifully in addition to making amazing films) and we got to work. Making a video was a new endeavor for us. We learned so much along the way. At first we were nervous about taking on this kind of project, but by the end, we knew we had created something special.

Public transit + babywearing=winning!

And today, we are so excited to be sharing this video with you. We hope you agree that it shows both moms, dads and babies in the place of best advantage—the catbird seat. From convenience, to connection, to mobility; from comfort, to security, to freedom—there’s no better place to be.

Getting adjusted before the shot.

To celebrate our video’s public premier, we are giving away the 4 carriers shown in the video: Sunset mei tei, Annika mei tei, Zephyr pikkolo, and Georgia pikkolo. Tell us which carrier or scene is your favorite;  comment (here or on Facebook), share, and then fill complete the Rafflecopter entry form for a chance to win.

I have a buckle carrier and I love having my baby close but I would love to try out a mei tai they seem easier to pack along without all the buckles getting in the way. I also fear breaking a buckle if it falls from the bag in transport and gets caught in the door and then my carrier is worthless! Oh the fears of a baby wearing parent!

My favourite carrier in the video was the Zephyr pikkolo

  • Reply Holly McCroskey September 25, 2014 at 6:00 pm

Wonderful video! I’ve always liked the name of the company; it’s just so perfect. Shared on my FB page and in my BWI chapter’s FB group. I particularly like the street and public transit scenes, because it brings back fond memories. (My kids are older now, and if I win a giveaway carrier it will go to my BWI chapter’s library.) And I like the ones involving baby exploring a flower. My own kids both had similar experiences with flowers — though once my son tried to eat a bride’s bouquet as we chatted with her in the receiving line!

  • Reply Tara September 25, 2014 at 6:02 pm

I love the sunset mei tai! 🙂

I love all of these scenes! I can relate to every one of them – except doing tai chi – but now I’m inspired to do this with my daughter in her carrier. I love wearing my daughter up high on my back when we’re exploring, and on my front when she could use some extra cuddles during the day. Catbird, you make such beautiful carriers!

Great video! Can’t decide my favorite…Beginning sense resonates w my life wearing. But I love the mommy kissing newborn while daddy wears.

  • Reply Cat September 25, 2014 at 7:00 pm

I would choose the Catbird Baby Mei Tai in the Annika print – we have our 2nd little coming in November, and I’d love to be able for both me and hubby to wear our kiddos (we have one Mei Tai already) to go on family walks or outings. Print because prints are just more fun, I think 🙂 And hooray for not needing an infant insert! Planning on wearing #2 quite a bit, but it’s hot here in So Cal, so the less material on me, the better for keeping us both comfortably cool.
